Car owners like to protect their investment, so even the tiniest bit of damage can ruin their day. If you’re a car owner, just a tiny nick, chip, or scratch can send you into panic and frenzy. If you’re the type who doesn’t care, know that the tiny damage and imperfections on the paint can increase over time – leaving you no choice but to get expensive paint repairs.
It’s a good thing that there’s a modern solution to this issue: Installing clear bra treatments offer superior protection for your car paint against small rocks, debris, and other road hazards.
What Exactly is a Clear Bra?
Also referred to as paint protection film, clear bra is a transparent, nearly invisible film that’s applied to your car’s paint. A clear bra is made from ultra-rugged urethane and is originally designed to protect the leading edges of military helicopter blades from debris. Since then, the film has been repackaged for OEM or aftermarket paint protection.
How It Works
One of the most notable features of clear bra is that it protects the exterior from the sun’s harsh UV rays and to prevent car paint color fading. The protection film is made of elastomeric polymers, which are resistant to stretching and structural changes, and highly buoyant. Therefore, whenever your car’s exterior receives scratches, the damage is absorbed by the material instead of receiving damage.
Furthermore, the urethane properties of the film enable it to resist corrosion and chemical stains. For this reason, clear bra is also highly resistant to common irritants that can damage the paint such as bird droppings and mineral deposits.
Clear bra kits are offered in different thicknesses. There’s a “partial front” kit that can be used to cover the front bumper, partial front bender, both mirrors, headlights, and partial hood. For general protection, this is the recommended minimum amount of protection that you should get. You can also get a “full front” kit which includes protection for the full front fender and full hood, on top of the front bumper, mirrors, headlights protection. For a “full vehicle” kit, you get everything from the “full front” kit along with the rocker panels, doors, rear bumper, rear decklid, and the whole roof and pillars. As you might expect, the full vehicle kit is what you get if you want total paint protection.
For an added layer of protection, many car owners also apply a ceramic coating treatment which covers the clear bra and thickens the car’s coating. The ceramic coating adds enhanced protection to the paint and better resistance to chemicals, water, UV-rays, and scratches. Lastly, the coating also makes cleanup a breeze.
Should You Invest in Clear Bra?
Your vehicle is one of the most significant investments that you have, so it’s only normal that you want to protect your investment. Installing a paint protection film will not only provide your car with superior paint protection but it will also improve the overall look and integrity of your car.
