Wash the Manufacture’s Coating
This step especially holds importance if your car is delivered with a factory coating. This coating will protect your paint job from chemicals and dirt during shipping, but it can also make it hard for you to get a good finish on the vehicle. Washing off this coating will make the job much easier for you since the dirt won’t stick as easily.
Remove the Paint Sealant
The sealant acts as a barrier between the paint and the polish, making it difficult for any type of polish to penetrate into the clear coat.
To remove the sealant, use a clay bar kit or an orbital buffer with a clay bar pad. Do not use any pressure washer on your car because it can cause swirls in the paint, making it very difficult for you to paint properly.
Apply Cut & Polish Compound
Cut & Polish Compound should be applied only in a circular motion; it should not be rubbed back and forth, as this will cause swirls and holograms in your paintwork.
Apply Cut & Polish Compound liberally to the surface and spread it evenly with a foam applicator pad or microfiber towel. Wipe off excess product with a clean microfiber towel – do not wipe back and forth!
Apply a Finishing Polish and Cleaner Wax
After the car is dried, apply a finishing polish and cleaner wax to remove the swirls from the paintwork and give it a shine. Use circular motions when applying and work in small sections simultaneously to ensure coverage without overlapping.
Use Applicator Pads and Buffing Towels
Use the proper tool for the job. For example, applying polish with a brush is fine, but you should use a polishing pad or applicator pad to remove scratches and swirls. These are made of foam or wool and have a backing that keeps them on your hand. The backing also helps prevent you from applying too much pressure, which can cause haze.
